We will not be relegated, Abok vows

Kisii RFC head coach Nick Abok has come out gun blazing in support of his new team after they were walloped 36-6 by reigning champions KCB at Gusii Stadium at the weekend.

Abok is optimistic he will turn around the fortunes of the team and hopefully maintain their top flight spot.

“My main aim now is to maintain our top flight spot and win a few games before the end of the season, but for now we take each game at a time,”he said.

The soft spoken coach may have started on a wrong footing but he believes his time to harvest and rejoice is just around the corner.

“My boys have the heart and you could see by the way they executed their strategy in the field. Come next game against Strathmore Leos we will prosper against all odds,” Abok added.

“To record such a score against a defending champion is not that easy especially for a newly promoted side with no experience at the top flight, and that’s what my boys need to learn and remain positive in each game.”

At the same time, Kisii RFC chairman Walter Orangi is in full support of the coach, citing the positivity he has brought in the team.

“Yes, he has been working very hard and turned around the mindset of our players .He has good work ethics and focused on one main goal which is to try and maintain the top flight status,”said  Orangi.

Kisii play host to Strathmore Leos at the Gusii Stadium and with the loyalty from their fans, the game is expected to elicit fireworks given the fact that both teams have not won any game this season.

Kisii RFC won the 2016/2017 championship league to earn a Kenya Cup promotion alongside Mombasa RFC, replacing Western Bulls and Mean Machine who were relegated to the championship league.
