We will pull a Leicester, Posta Rangers coach says

Posta Rangers Coach Zedekiah  ‘Zico’ Otieno believes his side is capable of pulling a Leicester City this season in the SportPesa Premier League and become the second promoted side after bottom-placed Sofapaka FC to clinch the title.

The Foxes surprised the world by winning the English Premier League this season after starving off relegation and the former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia head coach says his team can take inspiration from Claudio Ranieri’s side by holding on to their bright start to succeed the former as league champions.

“I don’t think there is any pressure on my side because when I joined Posta Rangers, there was an agreement I had with the club and we are still working with it.”

“We don’t want to say that we are going to win the league because that was not our target, but we can pull off a Leicester City. If the opportunity comes we can take it. We are not worried, we have quality players and we can move all along to winning the league,” Otieno said.

The newly promoted side is currently third on the log, three points behind leaders Tuskers FC on 20 points.

The former Sony Sugar tactician revealed the secret behind his teams resent success

“One, thing people don’t know is that we are at our prime age of playing football which is between 27 years and 28. Most of my players are in that age bracket thus we expect them to perform well,” he stated.

He was speaking on Tuesday morning when he was presented with the Fidelity/SJAK Coach of the Month award, having guided his side to wins against Tusker and Ulinzi Stars FC.

Posta won three and drew two of their last five league matches to pick 11 points in the process

“Part of our motivation are the fixtures themselves because last month we played top teams and the players were motivated.

“We succeeded due to the quality of players we have in the team, motivation from Postal Cooperation of Kenya, our sponsors, and a great coach,” he said.

Timothy Otieno has been one of the most influential players at the club, scoring four goals so far this season. There are reports linking the player on loan from the champions with a move to back to K’Ogalo and Zico had his take on the matter.

“Gor have not officially come to us to say they want to take Otieno back so for now he is a Posta player,” he asserted.

Posta will host Chemilil Sugar at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday with the coach underscoring his side will continue to take one game at a time.
