Webo: Ochan, Oyemba and Owade must all fight to be Leopards No.1

AFC Leopards goalkeeper trainer Lawrence Webo has cautioned that last season’s first choice goalie Ugandan Benjamin Ochan, Ezekiel Owade and new acquisition John Oyemba must all fight to be Leopards number one noting that none of them will be an automatic starter.

The immediate former Harambee Stars goalkeeper coach has noted that the addition of Oyemba from Kariobangi Sharks has added stiff competition to the department which is healthy for the club.

“I can’t say that so and so will be our first choice goalie followed by so and so. We are now in the pre-season and we cannot pre-empt the pecking order.

We still have some days to go and the important thing to note is that one will make it on the match day team sheet on the basis of his form,” he said, adding: “Yes, Ochan(Benjamin) has been our number one all through but things can change very first depending on how they (Ochan, Owade and Oyemba) will convince in the training”, Webo said.

Ochan was the preferred choice last season, starting in nearly all matches ahead of Owade but with the strengthening  of the department, there could be changes when the FKF Premier League season starts on November 20.

Oyemba signed a two-year contract with Ingwe this week while Ochan extended his contract over the weekend to stay at the den  for another year.

The Ugandan has already announced his intentions to finish the new season as the ”best goal keeper” in the league which poses a big challenge to the new acquisition and last season’s second choice goalie Owade to go extra mile.

Oyemba, last term, suffered injury while with Sharks which kept him out of a number of matches but Webo is optimistic he will shine.

“Picking Oyemba means I have been following him for a very long time and I am confident that he will attain the heights I need,’ Webo added.

Oyemba has also earned several calls to the Harambee Stars squad and joining Leopards will give him confidence to dream big.
