West Kenya to be expelled from Super League

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has set in motion the process to expel West Kenya Sugar FC from the National Super League after the club failed to honour their fifth match in a row last weekend.

At the same time, the Competition’s Committee of the second-tier competition is awaiting the Referee’s Report to determine the outcome of the abandoned clash between log leaders Nzoia United and Modern Coast Rangers.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the chairman of the committee and FKF NEC member, David Gikaria said they were in the process of banning West Kenya for the rest of the season.

“Points and goals awarded as walkovers to opponents due to West Kenya absentia shall be considered null and void,” he added.

At the time of the abandonment at Sudi Stadium due to heavy rains in 67th minute, Nzoia were leading 2-0 courtesy of Luke Namanda and Edgar Onyango and were well on course for the victory when their visitors from Mombasa who are second from bottom with only three points failed to return to the field asking for the game to be rescheduled.

The home side insist the result should stand in what would see them return to the summit of the NSL two points above Zoo Kericho who leapfrogged to the top on 14 after cuffing Police 1-0 in Kericho.

Agro Chemicals moved up to third also on 13 points after edging a 4-3 thriller at Nairobi’s Ligi Ndogo who are only a point above the drop zone.

Vihiga United (12) missed the chance to take charge after Edward Manoah’s side played out a third draw of the season when they were held 2-2 away at Nairobi Stima on Sunday.

Manoah cited poor officiating as the reason his side failed to collect maximum points against the hosts who are 12th as he prepares his team for their big clash against Nzoia where local bragging rights are at stake.

Nakumatt FC, Vihiga United and Bidco FC follow the pace setters in fifth, sixth and seventh all on nine points in the competition that has now been reduced to 19 sides.

According to Gikaria, FKF will not add any other side to the competition with six rounds gone after West Sugar gave Palos FC another walkover on Sunday.

After taking early charge of the table, Kariobangi Sharks have slipped to ninth on the log after their 1-1 stalemate at Nakumatt with Oserian and KCB also sharing a similar stalemate in Naivasha after a Peter Kamau’s 44th minute penalty cancelled out Bethuel Warambo’s opener for the bankers in the 33rd.

Sharks will be involved in another Nairobi derby on Saturday when they take on Wazito FC who beat Nakuru All Stars 1-0 over the weekend to move above them to seventh.

Ibrahim Muganda’s Zoo have a tough fixture against Agro Chemicals in another highlight clash of round seven of the competition.
