World Taekwondo instructors in Kilifi to polish team

The Kilifi taekwondo team’s preparations for the forthcoming World Taekwondo Championship in Muju, South Korea were on Tuesday given major boost after receiving three Korean instructors courtesy of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and World Peace Corps Foundation.

The trio – Master Lee Jaesoeg, Park Gyu Tae and Park SangSu – will serve as a welcome polish for the Coastal team for the next two weeks where they will help the Kenyans acquaint themselves with the new WTF competition rules and self defence through demonstrative sessions.

The Koreans donated training equipment to the Kilifi County government’s Sports Ministry with Governor Amason Jeffa Kingi pledging his support to the team.

In return, Kingi was promised a honorary Black Belt for his steadfast five-year support for the team when he next tours Korea.

In attendance were county officials including Sports County Director, Bonface Kirimi, Chief Officer for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Emmanuel J. Katana, the E.C.E Salma Muhidd and County secretary Owen Baya.

Kilifi Taekwondo Head Coach Onesmus Safari Ngao thanked the County leadership and the Korean contingent for recognizing the region as the best at talent nurturing.

He urged his team to maintain high standards of discipline and hard work ahead of the May 16-20 world championships.
