Kenya Women Premier League teams have welcomed the move by Football Kenya Federation to push back the kickoff date saying this will enable them plan adequately for the upcoming season.

In a conversation with Citizen Digital, Vihiga Queens coach Alex Alumira says the extended break will give his team time to polish up considering the fact that the girls just reported to camp later this month.

“I think the move is okay because we had a very short time for preparations, so the extra ten days will help us keep sharpening the remaining edges,” said Alumira.

On adherence to Covid-19 protocols, he said: “Tentatively the management had already provided some of the requirements needed before being allowed to play, some of us coaches have already been trained concerning Covid-19 and had already put some measures in place, so we are waiting to see what the ministry directs,” said the soft spoken tactician.

His Kisumu Starlets counterpart Juma Sayid says that the team has had challenges in preparation for the season in terms of training and acquiring the relevant materials needed to fight Covid-19 but the extension will play a big role in making sure that all the set rules are met before kickoff.

“Corona had put us on hold for long, so preparing and getting girls back together was a problem, so the extension will really help, my girls are not back to the form I expect of them, life has been hard but we have to push ahead,” said Juma.

Joseph Mwanza Wambua, Kahawa Queen’s coach and Gusii Starlets tactician Litred Oyori have also thrown their weight behind the move to move back the kick off date.

The new season will now begin on December 12.
