Wrestling trio sue Nock official after Commonwealth ouster

Three wrestlers have filed a legal suit against the National Olympics  Committee of Kenyan treasurer Eliud Kariuki following their controversial exclusion from Team Kenya to the Commonwealth Games.

The trio, Hollis Ochieng, Sammy Alego and Leah Njogu, want the Nock official charged with corruption, abuse of office and discrimination as the spat took a new twist this morning.

Kariuki confirmed he has received a court order to that effect, saying his legal team will respond accordingly.

All African Games bronze medalist Ochieng who last week accused Kariuki of influencing his omission from the travelling squad due to their sour past says he seeks justice for victim of rogue selections by officials.

“Personally it’s not the first time I have been left out of the squad because of him yet I believe I am a good player. He has been pinning athletes down and as a result limiting our chances of excelling for the country,” Ochieng told Citizen Digital.

He further accused wrestling officials of an out-of-the-norm selection, claiming they drew up the final squad in Nigeria instead of in the country where it would have been easier to achieve a transparent process.

He accused him for being   dishonest  in his words by rubbishing the fact a that a team that will be representing the country  in the forthcoming  Commonwealth games was selected in Nigeria.

“It shows you something is horribly wrong,” he said.

Those irregular selection claims were denied by the Kenya wrestling head coach  Linus Masheti  who explained that by trimming the number of slots alloted to Kenya from 10 to two, Commonwealth organisers had given them a selection dilemma.
