Yego frays Nock for delaying his coachs departure to Rio

As the Rio 2016 Olympics officially kicked-off with dazzling opening ceremony in the early hours of Saturday men Javelin world champion, Julius Yego, has taken to social media to allege a conspiracy that will see him depart for the Summer Games without his coach.

The Commonwealth and two-time African champion tore into the National Olympics Committee-Kenya (Nock) over the travel arrangements for the 31st edition of the sporting carnival in a post that was shared widely by those with an inclination to the sport on Friday.

In a lengthy Facebook post, the All Africa Games champion claimed there could be a deliberate attempt to sabotage Team Kenya’s results in Rio in a rant that will not sit well with Nock.

“Am reading mischief on how the management of the team is being run. The sprinters left last Sunday and their coaches were left behind in a very irresponsible and funny way!

“My coach is now being told that he is not traveling till the August, 14th and am leaving on Sunday. That means he will arrive a day before I get to the field! Ridiculous!!” The You Tube Man as he is popularly known ranted on his official Facebook page.

He faulted the officials for allowing a repeat of what happened at the 2012 London Olympics where he noted some key technical officials  were forced to arrive at the event just days before its closing ceremony.

“For sure I can’t imagine being alone less my coach in training in Olympic it’s a big tournament that requires the well-preparedness of athletes; to be at high level of mindset of which without a coach it’s impossible to achieve!

“Can the government rescue the ‘Top of the world’ reputation before it’s a story!! Bogus top management and pretense!!” the Beijing Worlds titleholder charged.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Yego explained that he only got to know of his coach’s delayed travelling arrangements through a call from him.

“He says he has been told that he will travel alongside the marathon athletes. How on earth would they do that to him? Is he a marathoner or is it that Nock officials confuse Javelin for marathon!!” the visibly upset field athletics star said.

“It is sad and I wish this issue of mismanagement of the team ends. These people lack total leadership skills.”

In a similar situation last week, sprinters had to leave without their coaches and now Yego’s coach will be left behind till one day to the start of the track and field programme.

Kenya’s preparations to the Rio 2016 have been rocked by the withdrawal of the men 4x400m relay team and the African men high jump champion, Mathew Sawe from the final squad after it was established they had not qualified.

This is not the first time for Yego to take to social media to lambast the build-up to the Rio Games.

Ahead of the Trials on June 30 and July 1 in Eldoret, Yego complained of the presence of goal posts in the run-up area of the stadium that organisers removed.

In February, he took on the organisers of a local jazz festival to fray them for trashing the training track of Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani with his furious reaction forcing the sponsoring company to upgrade the track.
