Yego to kick-off vigorous campaign

Former World Javelin champion Julius Yego is set to kick off a vigorous campaign in order to return to the helm of Javelin throwing in the World.

Yego, who stunned the world in 2015 to become the first Kenyan to win a world title outside track competitions in the world athletics championship, will start his campaign in the second edition of the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai China Saturday 18thMay.

The 30-year-old athlete who is also an Olympic silver medalist is aiming to improve on his throws.

“My target is to throw good throws over 83m, considering its my first competition of the season and we have a long year which will culminate in the Doha, world championships, I have to make slow  progression towards that so that I hit top form before September”, He told Citizen Digital.

Yego has been out for following a serious injury and he believes his comeback will bring good results.

“I have been working on my techniques. I think I lost some of it when I got injured so I need to improve a lot on the run way and technique.”

“I also thank God because after the recovery my progression has been well”.

Yego is also an African, and commonwealth Champion as well as an All African Games winner. He has a personal best of 92.72 and a commonwealth champion.

He will be against World Silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic and his counterpart Petr Frydrych the world bronze medalist.
