Julius Yego, Vivian Cheruiyot win Athlete of the Year Awards
Javelin thrower Julius Yego and Vivian Cheruiyot won the Athlete of the Year Awards at a Gala held held at a Nairobi hotel.
The event also attended by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario saw several best performing athletes honoured in different categories including cross country, road running, long distance and youth athletes of the year.
In his speech, Wario said the country will not condone doping among athletes saying World Anti-Doping Agency officials will be in the country next week to carry out tests.
He added that the government has allocated Sh200 million to go towards the prevention of doping among athletes in order to build trust in the sport.
