Yobs must be punished, Leopards boss growls as KPL awaits referees report

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule has warned that every culprit involved in Saturday’s hooliganism during the Mashemeji derby will be brought to book.

During the match, irate Leopards fans vandalized the stadium’s seats which they unfurled to the pitch as they fell 0-2 to Gor Mahia who bagged the league title for a 17th time.

Mule noted that wanton destruction of stadium seats and property was unwarranted.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the Ingwe chief also blamed home team Gor Mahia for the security lapse.

“We condemn the behaviour of the fans who resorted to break the stadium seats and we are going to work with the security officials in the investigations.

In the meantime, Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Chief Operations Officer Frank Okoth said that they are awaiting the referees’ report which will be presented to the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) for further action.

“We are expecting the report from both the centre referee and the match commissioner on the happenings during the derby by tomorrow 4pm (Tuesday) and go through it before we forward to the disciplinary committee.

Okoth added that the committee shall review the report and comb at past cases with a view of finding a solution.

“I don’t want to pre-empt on what the committee is going to do but what I know is that the report that shall be forwarded is going to play an important role in the resolution that shall be made,”Okoth added.

Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation is expected to make it stance on matter on Tuesday during a press briefing.

Leopards face Wazito FC on Wednesday in another league tie while Gor Mahia will be away in Algeria battling USM Algers in a Caf-Confederations clash.
