You need the trophy? Give us proper preparations, warns Munala
The national women volleyball head coach Japheth Munala has called upon the federation to put in place adequate preparation mechanisms for the Malkia Strikers ahead of next year’s World Nations Championship.
Speaking at a city hotel on Thursday afternoon where the team was hosted to a luncheon, Munala said that it was imperative for the girls to have proper preparations if they are to make an impression at the global showpiece set for Japan.
“We have requested the federation to give us ample time to train. We need like 6 months of intense training because the world championships is very competitive,”Munala said, adding that the competition will feature the world’s best hence the need of preparedness.
Munala also took time to reflect on their disappointing loss to Cameroon . He said:”Before we jetted out , I said it was going to be tough and indeed it was. Cameroon is well funded; they prepare well and do not lack anything. We have to be at our best in order to march the best.”
The Malkia Strikers sealed the berth to the global showpiece by finishing runners up to Cameroon in the African Nation Championship which concluded in Yaoundé last week.
At the same time, coach Munala singled out youngster Immaculate Chemtais for praise after making an impressive debut in the continental championship.
“I believe she made an impact. She won’t be out of the team. She in an upcoming star who we will rely on in the future.”
Kenyan swaggered their way from the group with straight sets before failing to hosts Cameroon in the final.
Skipper Mercy Moim and Edith Wisa also starred in the competition winning best attacker and blocker awards respectively.
