You’re getting sacked tomorrow, Van Gaal tells journalist

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had a run-in with a journalist after the Red Devil’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Van Gaal’s position as Manchester United manager has in the recent past come under intense scrutiny following the string of under par performances his side has continued to display.

Diego Costa’s late leveller ensured the spoils would be shared at Stamford Bridge following Jesse Lingard’s sublime turn and shot earlier in the second half.

Despite not taking all the three points, Van Gaal labelled his side’s display ‘sparkling’ as their gradual return to form continued.

Asked if he thought the improved performances were important to convince the owners he still has a lot to offer, Van Gaal did not take the sentiments lightly.

“You have spoken with Ed Woodward?” he asked irritably.

“Why do the club have to deny it? You are creating stories. You haven’t spoken with Ed Woodward or the Glazers and you are inventing the story. Then I have to answer that question.

“I don’t answer this question and I shall repeat myself every week. I have to say that you are getting the sack tomorrow. What is your name? Then I can announce the name also,” he said.

There have been increased speculations linking Jose Mourinho to the Old Trafford managerial role with some Manchester United fans publicly wearing ‘Jose Mourinho United’ scarfs during their first leg Premier League meeting with the Blues in December after Mourinho’s sacking.

Following Manchester United’s 2-0 loss at stoke in December, Van Gaal hinted he was willing to offer his resignation.

“I can quit by myself but that is something I speak about with Ed Woodward by himself,” the United manager said. “I will speak with him first and then with my staff. I need to have a conversation but I do not need to tell you what I want to say. I am not so interested in keeping the public talking.”

Executive vice-chairman Edward Woodward has expressed his backing for the under fire Dutch coach with reports on Daily Mail, indicating that Van Gaal has twice been talked out of penning his resignation.
