Zanzibar beat Harambee Stars in CECAFA clash

Harambee Stars stellar performance at the CECAFA 2015 was dealt a blow after they were thrashed 3-1 by minnows Zanzibar in the CECAFA Challenges Cup.

The Kenyan side showed a lackluster performance, different from the one displayed in their 2-0 win against Uganda and 0-0 draw against Zanzibar.

A double from Suleiman Khamis in the 44th and 73rd minutes and a goal from Moha Khamis gave Zanzibar the win with Kenya getting their consolation goal through Jacob Keli in the 90th minute, after coming in for Kevin Kimani in the 65th minute.

Coach Bobby Williamson had made eight substitutions from the team that faced Burundi resting key played including goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, defenders David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng and David Owino and strikers Michael Olunga and Jacob Keli.

The defeat means Kenya will have to wait for the outcome of the match between Uganda and Burundi to know whether they will proceed to the quarter finals or not.

Harambee Stars will have to hope that Burundi beat Uganda for them to proceed to the next round or hope to qualify as one of the two best losers in case Uganda win or draw.
