Zapata wants foreign players in Leopards attack

Coach Rodolfo Zapata has identified AFC Leopards’ attacking as the department that needs urgent fixing in order to re-establish the side as a top Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club.

Zapata said he has forwarded to the National Executive Committee (NEC) names of strikers from Botswana, South Africa, Argentina and Brazil for their approval before the signings are made.

“I have already recommended some names to the NEC hoping to have them at the Leopards. They are good players and we’d be more dangerous if we are able o have them,” the Argentinean manger told Citizen Digital.

The former Gaborone United tactician said Leopards have been over-reliant on Ezekiel Odera with his absence often leaving them blunt in attack.

Leopards had offered a two-year deal worth KSh5 million to Tumisang ‘Teenage’ Orebonye but the Botswana international turned down the deal earlier last month as Zapata’s effort to reunite with the player ended in vain.

Leopards lost 4-2 to Singida United on post-match penalties after their Super Cup quarter-finals match had ended in a barren draw after regulation time and are sixth on the KPL table, 11 points off-pace.
