Zapata wont block Yanga move for top player Isuza

AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata has said he will not block the sale of any player amid reports Tanzanian giants Yanga SC have approached Whyvonne Isuza over a possible move.

Reports suggested talks between Isuza and Yanga are in an advanced stage with the record Tanzanian champions keen to finalise a deal for the midfielder over the next few weeks.

Having endured a tepid debut year at the Den last season, Isuza has enjoyed a blistering run of form this term with his nine Kenyan Premier League (KPL) goals making him Ingwe’s leading goalscorer.

The former Mathare United player is also joint-second with Mike Madoya on the division’s goal-scoring charts – just two behind Elvis Rupia – with his performances key in propelling Leopards back to the KPL top four.

“To be honest I don’t know whether he is wanted elsewhere but if Yanga are interested in him then that is not a surprise. Isuza is a good player who is always hungry for goals and that alone makes me proud of him as my player,” Zapata said.

The Argentine manager added that Isuza, who scored in Leopards’ 2-0 win over Thika United last weekend, is a top player who can fit into any team in the continent.

“Isuza is the type of player who cannot disappoint in any team in Africa,” he said.

Isuza, who finished first runners up in the KPL Midfielder of the Year category at the 2016 Footballer of the Year Awards, played a key role at Mathare where he scored six times for the Slum Boys as the club finished seventh before making the switch to Leopards in January last year.

Meanwhile, Zapata has welcomed reports of that former international Tom Juma is set to join the club as his assistant coach.

The former Gaberone United coach has said that he has already talked to him and hoped he will add value to the coaching staff.

Juma will the position left by Tanzanian Dennis Kitambi following his exit last month.
