Zarika fighting Phiri to bring peace

The boxing rings knows no harmony for those in it but Fatuma Zarika will use her upcoming fight against Zambian Catherine Phiri to deliver a message of peace for her Kenyan compatriots.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight champion said Saturday’s bout at the Carnivore Grounds will represent much more that putting her title on the line as she hopes her performances inspire an end to the country’s political unrest.

“I want to ask Kenyans to be peaceful because the situation has led to loss of lives which is sad and painful,” Zarika told Citizen Digital.

Zarika weighed at 54.2kgs with Zambian counterpart weighing 55kgs ahead of their much-awaited face-off. The boxing night event in Nairobi will feature nine fights roping in other boxers from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda and the USA.

It will mark their first head to head encounter but Zarika exuded confidence she will outlast Phiri.

“I do not have to watch her previous fights because I will use the first round to learn her moves and to know her weakpoints,” Zarika said.

The self proclaimed ‘Iron Fist Lady’ has urged her fans to turn out in large numbers as she promised to give them a pulse throbbing show.
