Zico lifts the lid on secrets to KCB stormy start to the league

KCB head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has attributed his team’s perfect start to the season to consistency and continuation to last season’s project.

The Bankers finished fifth in the previous season and Zico says maintaining the squad they had last term and the good signings they made during the transfer window is key to the stormy run.

“We kept our best players from the campaign last season and one of the reasons why we are not struggling is because the players understand each other very well.

We also made some good signings during the transfer window that have gelled well with the previous members of the squad.

This season is more competitive but  I’m hoping we will continue with the momentum we have started with,” said Zico.

The former national team head coach was also quick to congratulate Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga for his move to the Qatari top-tier side Al Duhail SC.

Olunga is set to be unveiled Tuesday after his Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol accepted a bid believed to be around Ksh 933 million.

“He is a rare breed of players that are hard to find, Olunga is disciplined and very hard working and every season he tries to improve.

Qatar challenge is a good step towards greatness and I am hoping he will go far and play for the bigger clubs in Europe,” insisted the former Kenyan international.

The Kenyan international scored 28 goals in 32 matches last session to finish as Japanese league’s top scorer while also bagging the Most Valuable Player award.
