Zoo FC win to keep on-form Sharks in NSL check

National Super League (NSL) sides Kariobangi Sharks and Zoo Kericho FC pulled to at least four points clear of the rest of the top flight promotion pack as they each registered crucial wins on Saturday.

Zoo were 2-1 winners over Nairobi Stima courtesy of first half strikes from the striking duo of Nicholas Kipkirui and Bernard Wanguche while second half goals from skipper Ibrahim Kitawi and Francis Manoah guided Sharks to a 2-0 win over Bidco United.

The result means Vihiga United are mathematically incapable of rising into top two in the league – the only assured position for earning a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) promotion – with Sharks needing only a draw in their next fixture to knock fifth-placed KCB off the race for second.

The Bankers saw their seven-match winning streak brought to an untimely end as they were held to a barren draw by Police FC. An eighth win on the bounce would have taken them to a point beyond Nakumatt FC who travel to Shabana FC Sunday.

In other matches played on Saturday, Mosca FC hammered three past Ligi Ndogo to take them on the brink of relegation. A win at home for St. Joseph FC against Nakuru All Stars on Sunday will seal Shabana’s relegation while such a result would mean Ligi Ndogo would need to win their remaining two fixtures with a combined +18 goal difference to survive.

In Kisumu, Palos FC recovered from their upset last weekend to edge visitors Wazito FC 2-1 with David Amimo grabbing a brace to help his side climb above Stima and Bidco into seventh on the log.

At Muhoroni, Agro Chemicals won 2-0 against Modern Coast Rangers.
